Dundas Driving Park

Play

PMA Landscape Architects were retained by the City of Hamilton to prepare detailed design plans and specifications for the renovation of Dundas Driving Park. The program, initiated by an approved Master Plan, included new washrooms, a bandshell, performance stage, and Zamboni storage building, along with an artificial outdoor ice rink surface, new wading pool and splash pad, renovated pee-wee ball diamonds, beach volleyball and improved vehicular and pedestrian circulation. Dundas Driving Park is an historical feature of downtown Dundas. Initially used as a horse-racing track, the ring road still has the quality of the former racing oval.

PMA worked with the City of Hamilton staff and the Dundas Rotary Club (a major donor and sponsor) in the design of the 100m2 outdoor artificial rink design. The new building design was handled by R.F. Lintak Architects. PMA worked in tandem with the architect in the siting and grading of the building to provide a raised stage area affiliated with the bandshell. The landscape plan has transformed the centre of the park, providing for a concentration of activity. The park’s central walkway now meanders and connects the existing playground with the new working pool and splashpad, the outdoor rink/summer concert area, and the bandshell/concession/ washroom/change facility with the Zamboni storage/ice making facility.
