Ronald McDonald House

Social

PMA was the landscape architectural consultant of a multi-disciplinary team to develop the new Toronto Ronald McDonald House (TRMH). The facilitys purpose is to provide a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families, who live out of town but require the medical services only attainable in the city.

PMA provided the landscape design for four courtyard spaces: the Rain Garden at the main entrance; a main courtyard which provides for active play opportunities, barbecues and outdoor dining; a quieter courtyard space with an open lawn and seating; and a staff patio. As a LEED-Gold facility, PMA assisted with developing the irrigation system that recirculates water captured from the roofs by means of a cistern. The planting regime also consists of predominantly low-maintenance and non-invasive groundcovers, and an abundance of shade trees.
