The project began as the Detroit River International Crossing, the innovative design of a 10km stretch of highway towards the US-Canada border that entails recreational trails and ecological restoration. PMA acted as the lead landscape architectural consultant providing landscape and urban design support to the Environmental Assessment team under the guidance of URS Canada. By synthesizing technical information, stakeholder input, and client requirements, PMA assisted in developing the vision, design principles, and a series of high-level conceptual plans for right-of-way greenspace and natural areas, and associated municipal streetscapes.

Further to the EA Study, PMA supported and participated in a succession of public consultation meetings with a context-senstive design framework. PMA also produced the Performance Standards and Output Specifications for the P3 bidding and was involved in the RFP process defining compliance criteria, and reviewing bidder presentations.
