Port Huron Master Plan

Strategies

Social

Urban Realm

The Port Huron Master Plan aims to revitalize the port and former rail lands to become a regional attraction. Accessible by land and water, it is a destination for workers, residents, shoppers and visitors. A new public open space adjacent to the St. Clair River will provide public and park space for civic and ceremonial functions, all connected by an esplanade. An amphitheater, skating rink, interactive water spray play, fountains, tennis courts, playing fields, historical piers, headwalls and a boardwalk provide year round activity venues for all age groups.

While signaling a renewed interest in Port Huron’s downtown, the redevelopment creates a coherent and identifiable public realm. Open space, streetscape and building design will be coordinated to create safe, accessible, inviting and comfortable pedestrian environments fostering a sense of place for Downtown Port Huron.
